What is Lip Blushing Lip Tattoo?

Everything you need to know about a lip blushing lip tattoo.

There are so many reasons to enjoy a beautiful lip blushing tattoo. Some are looking for their lips to appear plumper looking, and some want a boost of color that defies the aging process - others want to wake up with their makeup ready to go.

While Lip Blushing can make your pout more succulent and plump, there are a few things you should know. You can adjust the shape slightly and give the lip line more definition, you cannot tattoo outside the vermilion border without it looking like a Kool-Aid stain around your lips. Be very cautious and know that your artist will not be able to mimic lip liners that balloon outside of the natural lip line.

Some good news though: In many cases you can camouflage a scar if your artist is skilled in this area. You can also make the shape of your Cupid's bow slightly more pointy or rounded depending on your preference as long as your natural lip shape has room for adjustment and you stay close to what is naturally happening.

As for color choice? You will want to avoid choosing too light of colors. Light colors mean white and white means titanium dioxide. While it's totally fine to have a titanium dioxide in your lip color choice, Too much titanium dioxide can age poorly and give the lips a corpse-like look as time goes on. Your artist will know what you can and can't get away with, so be sure to talk about this with them when you make your lip blushing appointment.

A list of things your artist will want to know:

  1. picture of your lips and current lip color

  2. a picture of the desired color you'd like to achieve

  3. what lip color you currently use to achieve the results you want

  4. the style of lip color you may want, such as aquarel, ombre, lip liner, shaded lip liner, Neutralization, regular lip blushing or full-blown lip color

  5. what your specific hope is for the results.

All of this is so they can create a recipe of lip color that is just for you. This is relevant because your natural lip color and your undertones, will affect the pigment color that it is implanted into your skin.

In almost every lip blushing case, your immediate results will be much brighter bolder and darker than you initially expected and were looking for. Through the 8-week healing process that initial color will go through dramatic changes. It's very normal to see the color deepen and darken as the scabs appear over the first few days. After the scabs come off, the color will fade to a very light color and this is called the ghosting phase. You may experience patchiness that can be corrected at your touch up appointment. Over the next 6 to 8 weeks your lips will change color, deepen in color, and or fade in color. Do not worry and trust the process. If at the end of the 8th week you are not satisfied with the color, you can always ask for something slightly different in your touch up appointment.

What can you expect in the lip blushing procedure? First, your artist and you will come up with the desired color and map out a shape that suits your taste but that is also achievable with your vermilion border. . She will then numb you for 10 to 25 minutes depending on what cream she uses and your sensitivities. Better results and reactions can happen with less numbing however, if you are prone to pain, you can most definitely have more numbing agents requested she will begin by outlining the lip. Then she will begin slowly implanting the color alternating between the lower lip and the upper lip and numbing in between each pass. You can expect two to three passes. The entire process takes between 2-3 hours. There will be a point where your lips have had enough and with the swelling, they will not be able to take any more pigment. At this point your artist will need to stop and If any adjustments are needed, she can address them at the touch up appointment in 8-10 weeks.

LIP BLUSH NEED TO KNOWS/ WHAT TO EXPECT

You should expect 2-4 appointments spread 8-10 weeks apart. You’ll get to know your artist very well and spend a lot of time with them! A typical lip blush a very light blushing of color (like a gloss without the shine) will take at least two appointments. If you are looking for a more full coverage lipstick effect, you should expect 3-4 appointments. If your lips have a purple, marroon or black undertone they will also need neutralization so they turn the color you want, your artist will tell you. Neutralization + Color will be 3-4 appointments.

Important things to remember that will affect how you take the ink and how well you maintain the ink are:

1. Hydration is key! Staying very hydrated before your appointment is important

2. Have a nice exfoliated area with no dead lip skin. Start exfoliation 7 days prior and continue until the day before - Use something mild like brown sugar and olive oil

3. Keeping your lips ultra hydrated with something like Burt's bees or a nourishing lip oil before your appointment.

4. You will want to take an antiviral like Valtrex or Acyclovir starting the day of or or the day before your appointment if you have ever had even 1 cold sore in your life. If you're currently taking something for cold sores, you will want to up the dose.

5. Regardless of whether you have had a cold sore or not, 1,000 mg of lysine taken for 7 days prior to your appointment and during your healing time is recommended.

6. Mature skin will take the ink differently and will be its own journey. It may be more difficult hydrate the area and keep the dead skin off so being patient with your results and appointments is important.

7. The color is going to change a lot over the 8 -10 weeks after your appointment when at that point, it finally settles in to it's final color. Throughout the 8-10 weeks between your first and second appointment, your lips will change a lot going from dark to light to maybe showing some unwanted undertones and even patchiness. Sometimes it can be difficult to wait, so patience is key. Subsequent appointments will address unwanted issues and even out your coverage. The more appointments you have, the more saturation you will get.

8. Be aware that you will need multiple sessions to get the coverage you are looking for.

9. Skin tone and skin conditions as well as medications and topicals including anti-aging products will affect your ink retention and patchiness. Please pay attention when filling out your medical form and be sure to bring anything up to your artist that may interfere with your ink retention or interfere with how your body responds to the procedure.

10. Proper precare and aftercare are VERY important and will affect your result outcome. Outcomes are heavily reliant on how well you take care of your lip blush. Read all of the information carefully and be sure to time your blush at a time that you can care for them properly and keep them out of the sun

At the end of the day, the lip blush process can be long and full of its ups and downs but with proper expectations and care, the outcome is beautiful, will simplify your routine and even give you a more youthful appearance.
